Education |

|
The great aim of education is not knowledge but action. - Herbert Spencer To educate is to provide knowledge or training for a particular area or purpose. Once we gather knowledge and information, we are to then act correspondingly on the understood knowledge to make the necessary changes found in our evaluation. This is true education. Knowledge + Corresponding Action = Education. When we are truly educated in an area, we are no longer ignorant in that area. So in order for us to move forward towards success, growth and better results in life, we will need to be educated. Do What You Learn To learn is defined as to be informed, gain knowledge, skill and experience. All of this knowledge, information and experience is pointless and useless if it is never acted upon. Do not fool yourself into thinking that you are a listener when you are anything but, letting the Word go in one ear and out the other. Act on what you hear! Those who hear and do not act are like those who glance in the mirror, walk away, and two minutes later have no idea who they are and what they look like. But whoever catches a glimpse of the revealed counsel of God the free life! even out of the corner of his eye, and sticks with it, is no distracted scatterbrain but a man or woman of action. That person will find delight and affirmation in the action. - James 1:22-25 (The Message) These scriptures remind us of an important truth. When we hear something and learn about it, but do not apply into our lives through action, we are like a person who looks in the mirror and walks away doing nothing to fix what was seen. When I look into a mirror, I am looking at myself to make sure everything looks OK. If I have dirt smudged on my cheek, a booger on my lip and my hair is messed up, then I will going to fix what I saw in the mirror to make myself look better. But if I just looked and said, Oh well, I guess I have to keep it that way, and walk away, doing nothing to clean myself up or make myself look better, then why did I even look in the mirror in the first place? I look and act the same way I did after I looked into the mirror as I did before I looked into the mirror. This is what we do when we do not act accordingly to what we learn. When we learn something that can help us, clean us up and make us look, feel and become better people, then let us act on it right away. Let us experience the results of the newly learned knowledge and information we get through corresponding actions. Begin with the End in Mind Begin with the End in Mind - Stephen Covey When you begin your journey with the end in mind, it will affect not only where you end up, but also the condition you are in when you get there and after you arrive. I live in New Jersey. New Jersey in January can be extremely cold. If I am going to be taking a trip in the month of January to St. Lucia in the Caribbean Islands, I am going to begin with the end in mind while I am preparing for my trip. Even though I would need to wear long sleeves, sweatshirts, sweaters and winter clothes to keep me warm in New Jersey, I am not going to pack the same way for St. Lucia. Where I am going affects the way I pack my clothes and prepare myself. A runner also begins with the end in mind. When he enters a race, he has his sights set on the finish line. However, when a runner enters a race, he does so with the intentions of not just making it to the finish line but making it to the finish line first. The preparation for this race will not determine whether he finishes the race or not; rather, it determines what place he is in when he finishes the race. How you value the end of something will determine the level of preparations and contributions you give to that matter. I did not realize this principle when I was younger. I knew there was going to be an end to high school, but I never really cared about the condition I wouldd be in at the end. I failed to see the value of the end, so I did not do much to apply my best efforts and abilities to affect the condition of my graduation. So instead of finishing with stellar grades and above-average accomplishments, I performed below-average and did the minimum requirements needed to just barely graduate. Preparation time is just as important as graduation time. Now, a few years later when I went to Bible school, I began to see the value of not only finishing something, but also what condition am I in when I finish it. This time around, I started not only with the end in mind, which was graduation time, but the condition I wanted to be in at graduation time. So instead of preparing for below-average results to graduate with the bare-minimum requirements needed to walk down the aisle, I prepared, studied and paid attention with the intentions of graduating above-average and with stellar grades. So at the end of Bible school, not only did I graduate, but I graduated with a 4.0 grade point average. As a believer, this is what faith does! It begins with the end in mind. It states the truth of Gods Word and provision, acts on it, and through the vehicle of faith carries it from the realm of the spiritual into the natural. Whether it is using your faith or building your business, the reason for these stories is to illustrate the success achieved based off of this principle, no matter what area of life you apply this to. When you are in the work place, in the sale, in training, in your personal life or in any journey you take, as you allow the end to influence your starting point, you will achieve great success. Here are some steps to help you structure a plan in achieving your goals. The 1st Step Define Your End What is the specific target you are aiming to hit? What is the specific goal you want to achieve? Clearly lay out the time frame in which you want to achieve this goal. Have a starting point and a deadline. Everything worth having in life costs something. Everything comes with an exchange. What are you willing to exchange? Is it money for a product or service, or time for training and instruction? Write down what you have, what you need, what needs to be improved, what needs to be changed and what needs to be removed so you can reach your goals. |
